Club Championships Points

The final Total for the club is the sum of the Rank Points for each race and Runner Points earned for the meet. Clubs are divided into divisions by size of membership.

Rank Points

- The Top 7 of each age group are awarded points 7 for 1st, 6 for 2nd etc.
- A club's Top 7 ranking runner's points are combined as their points for each race.

Runner Points

- Every club member that runs an age group level course counts toward Runner Points.
- The final club total of runs, R at the meet earn points for the club by the formula:

Points Details

The highest possible Rank Points for a club each race is 49, having 7 runners in first place for their age group. There are 38 age groups. This sets the balance for the number of scoring runners being large enough that it is difficult for any club or several of them to have all its scoring runners get the max points, but also small enough that smaller clubs aren't overpowered simply by not having enough members to be competitive and earn points. Certainly larger clubs with more members have more opportunities to earn points and also non-scoring club runners results can block other clubs from earning higher positions.

Runner Points allows every member of the club to contribute toward earning points so the more that enter the higher the club's points. The formula scales the points based on typical turnout for the largest clubs to be roughly the same value as max Rank Points for a race. The formula also gives larger increase in points for extra runners when the value is lower than when it is higher so larger clubs don't simply beat smaller clubs just by having more members race. A club with 9 runs (3 members) earns 22 points, and a club with 33 runs (11 members) earns 35 points. while a club with 99 runs (33 members) earns 46 points.
