Mendon Ponds Park Icebreaker

Fortunately, no ice needed breaking at
the opening meet at Mendon Ponds; a few umbrellas were popped up,
although overall, the weather was not a problem.
Nancy and Richard Burgey used Linda
Kohn as consultant to create the full rainbow of courses (except blue).
Nancy didn't let the fact that she broke her wrist on a pre-event
expedition to the park keep her down. Controls were set out by the
Burgeys, Rick and Dale Levine, Laurie Hunt, and Dick and Cheryl
Detwiler. The Detwilers also set out an interesting String-O course for
the littlest attendees.
Karl Kolva and Anne Schwartz shared
meet director duties. Many people helped to make their job as easy as
possible. Rick and Dale Levine, Pete Dady, Carol Moran, and Laurie Hunt
greeted and helped newcomers. Manning the registration was Rakhsana
Cofer, Doug and Maggie Hall, Sandra Lomker, Patty and Jim Borden. Tom
Cornel took care of Tshirt sales.Tyler Borden commanded control of the
computer aspects of registration and result tabulation plus much more.
Erik Pieh relieved Tyler so that he could go run a course. Dick
Detwiler and Elspeth Ronnander handed people the correct maps and gave
out words of wisdom. Once again, Mary Kolva graced us all with a
wondrous spread of delicious homemade goodies. Controls were picked up
by Zak and Jim Borden, the Lavines, Don Winslow, Gary Maslanka, and
Nancy Burgey. An eleventh hour scouting party was dispatched to search
for 2 electronic controls, one of which was found by Tyler ! Box #180
has a $20 reward to whoever finds it. More info can be obtained from
Richard Burgey on the box's probable where-abouts. By the way, the
Burgeys win the award for the longest time spent at the event: 9am-6pm!
